Velvet Buzzsaw was so disappointing, jeez.
Hopefully Nightcrawler doesn't turn out to be a case of stars aligning, but not looking good after this one.

RIP Albert Finney. Guess I need to rewatch Miller’s Crossing soon Rewatching Big Fish might be a bit too sad given the news and that film's ending . What a screen presence though.

Peter Jackson’s WW1 documentary They Shall Not Grow Old was pretty amazing. What they did with 100 year old footage was incredible. After the credits he explains how they did it, and it really is fascinating.

So, I finally saw Fantastic Beasts 2 this afternoon and thought it was extremely forgettable from start to finish. And boy, was it looooong. They could have easily cut at least half an hour off the movie and it would have improved it so much. There were so many superfluous characters that didn't contribute anything and were just there (like Nagini for example). Plus, all the weird and contrived "plot twists" and retcons felt like a slap to the face to someone like me who absolutely adores the Harry Potter books. The movie was very "Cursed Child"-esque in that regard. My brother, who's already seen it, told me to keep my expectations low, and I did ... and I was still disappointed. Though one good thing to come out of it is that my husband and I were the only two people in the screening, which was kind of awesome. Even though the movie wasn't great, it was still a pretty lovely experience, so cozy and romantic.

I had no idea how much power and influence Russell Bufalino really had. So glad Pesci agreed to come out of retirement for this. Well that's the general idea. They always had a good idea who did it, and it was a classic outfit job. Have a meeting at some out of the way place, and your friends does you. I'm glad Pesci is back as well. True story about the Chicago outfit. My dad was obbsessed with the Mob and there was little he didn't know about the history of Chicago. He was an Orphan, his Dad was low end muscle trying to break into the higher ranks when they got wacked in 1929. Martin will never make a movie about it but it's a bit of a mystery. So my Grandfather and his Partner Mike Reilly were found in a car in the back of the Hawthorn hotel. This was a big hang out for Frank Nitti, Jack Mcgurn, and Ralph Capone, but most notably was where Al Capone ran his buisness. So my grandpa and Reilly made a name when they took over the Garage owners organization and Laundry drivers Union. They basically walked in and shot the guys running the place. They did this under Red Barker. They were later arrested with Barker in San Fran for shooting Albert Pratt. There MO was that they dressed as cops when they did hits. This would make them suspects in the SVDM but they were in a San Fran prison at the time awaiting trial. Barker led Capones assault on unions and Reilly and my grandfather were suspected of being two of Capones torpedoes when they took over the Chicago coal unions. However they were also believed to have come from the Quinlan organization in Cicero. Who were under the protection of Capone. They were at war with the Stanton Colts. Though it was never confirmed if they worked for Quinlan only that they operated out of Cicero and were killed during the Quinlan Stanton war. Usually they are much more closely considered 2 of Barkers top muscle guys. What nobody knows is why they were killed, who killed them and why they were placed in the back of the Hawthorn. My dad was connected but never part of the outfit, just his dad's friends sort of looked out for him over the years. He tried to find out but nobody knew why, he had some decent connections in Barker and Quinlan, and worked under the Capone umbrella under Barker. Alright that's my Chicago outfit story. Pew, Pew.

I think I’ve mentioned it before, but my grandpa was from Chicago. I heard some stories about the Outfit, and Black Hand from his youth growing up on the South side. He was a bit of a troublemaker, and 100% Italian so things could have turned out much differently had he not joined the Navy at 17. He did end up getting involved in some shenanigans in Newport, KY after moving to Cincinnati in the 50’s. Newport has a pretty interesting mob history if you’re into that kind of stuff. I’d imagine it’s not very well known outside this region, but it was a pretty big deal for awhile around here.

Been knocked off the site like 4 times today. Mayhaps some friends of ours do not wish us to speak on the innocent and falsly accused men labled Mafia. After all they were just warm hearted family men. I shudder at crime committed against these American saints.
Seriously though Newport? Everyone knows about Newport. The original sin city, Americas playground, the Beverly Hills club, the rat pack, Rober Kennedy's death sentence. Taken over by the Cincinnati syndicate, River Downs. There is a documentary about it. Gambling, cat houses and bootlegging it's the holy trinity of the mafia.

Damn ser cray, you really can write an essay about anything.
Are there any interesting films coming out in the next couple of months? I can't find anything to get hyped about.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is Jordan Peele’s, Us. I posted the trailer in this thread a while back.
