I've already posted all my positives/negatives about this episode over in the Rate the episode thread, so I won't repeat it all here.
Something I totally forgot about this episode that always puzzled me: Who sent Gendry away with the Night's Watch in the first place? Have I missed something? When Joffrey sends Janos Slynt and the goldcloaks to kill all the bastards of Robert, they torture the Blacksmith who kept Gendry into telling them he's gone off with the Night's Watch. We heard from Gendry that his Master told him he was tired of him and sent him away (to Arya) but now I'm wondering who did that? It obviously wasn't the Blacksmith, he knew the boy was a hard worker and talented. Was this Varys that did this just in the nick of time?
All the over the top sexposition aside, this episode still had some rare/great moments. Top marks to the Balon/Theon scene from me. I'd forgotten how much I liked that and Yara's introduction too.
See my coming symbolism post for the overall theme I gleaned from this episode and yes it will explore the heavy sexual / sexist overtones of the episode in detail!

I didn't get a chance to watch the episode on Wednesday. I'll try to catch up with 2x02 & 2x03 over the weekend.

I think the show will have a chance to bring this up in s7.

Poor Elyes Gabel. He figured World War Z would be better for his career and left GoT. I know he's got a gig now on some other show or another. But really staying would've been the better call. Especially since his part was greatly reduced in World War Z's editing and reshoots.

And there it was. Worst moment of the whole show. Not only cutting from one sex scene right into another. But cutting from one sex scene to another and then cutting to a guy looking through a peephole...then pulling back the camera to reveal a girl helping him out downstairs. Then LF and his peephole... And then getting a Farrelly brothers style cum-joke. Oof. I can understand why this show was once considered a guilty pleasure for many at first. Because of shit like this. Thankfully the LF-Ros scene that follows it is actually pretty decent. And the lighting in his brothel is always very interesting. Which is something of a redeeming quality.

Davos reacts quite strangely to a guy talking about fucking his son...I mean Matthos is an annoying kid obviously but him grinning at that suggestion? That's odd. Oh wait...Carice. Ah Carice. That Mel's some girl.

Yea, this is one of the weakest episodes of the whole series, I liked the scenes at Craster's and the introduction of Balon, you can see why Theon makes the choices he make's.The horrible brothel scenes are honestly pointless.

Because of shit like this.Thankfully the LF-Ros scene that follows it is actually pretty decent. And the lighting in his brothel is always very interesting. Which is something of a redeeming quality. This really was the lowest moment so far in their creative writing choices. I'd say it almost beats the sand-snakes debacle but only because at least the sand-snakes were a written part of the story by GRRM to begin with so we have to try and struggle to believe in their story because the original author did them so much better and the mistake seemed to lay in casting and script errors for those unfortunate girls chosen. The talk with Ros was actually a brilliantly wicked bit of writing and acting by both participants and it's a shame it was drowned out by the ugly sex scenes before-hand. Yes it's a brothel and all those sorts of depravity go on there but really, did we need all that? Having Ros run off from a patron crying would have been enough in itself and all the sexposition could have been spared. Yea, this is one of the weakest episodes of the whole series, I liked the scenes at Craster's and the introduction of Balon, you can see why Theon makes the choices he make's.The horrible brothel scenes are honestly pointless. Yes! Though the point is often lost on show-only fans, it's really here that we see Theon's tragic story-arc highlighted and beginning down the path of no-return for him. He was so desperate to please his Father who was clearly rejecting him that he made very bad decisions. This sort of thing happens all the time in modern times (not quite as severe as what happened to Theon of course). Broken families often find one child desperate to connect and please with the absentee Father or Mother and rejecting the other parent who has taken care of them and brought them up right all along. That rebellion leads them down a path of darkness for a long time and some never recover. Others get to adulthood and finally realize who it was who raised them and go back to make amends. Theon does get a second chance in life once reunited with his sister at least. I doubt he will ever make right with the Starks though. He burned that bridge and the true 'Father' who raised him is long dead and gone.

This episode really shouldn't exist. But at least Tyrion exiling Janos Slynt was a good scene.

I had such a great idea for a theme/symbolism write-up for this episode (and episode 1) all week but damn it's been another hectic one and I'm losing steam here guys. This season is the tough one to get into again after how amazing Season 1 was. Maybe I'll skip the writeup until midseason and do a combined one or something. ETA: Changed my mind! I actually had fun challenging myself to pull together the theme and symbolism of the episode. I hope you all will give it a read: housewiththereddoor.freeforums.net/thread/edit/240

It actually wasn't as bad as I remembered, although, it was still bad. It probably is the weakest episode of the series. The sex to sex to sex scene is the absolute worse, if they cut that entire part the episode wouldn't be so bad.
I liked the interactions between Arya and Gentry, Tyrion sending Janos to the Wall, Sam meeting Gilly, and the introduction of Yara. Oh yeah and the conversation between Cersei and Tyrion, those two are always excellent together.

The sex to sex to sex scene is the absolute worse, Yeah cutting from one sex scene to another really made me question back in 2012 why I was even watching this show. I was embarrassed. Not because it's embarrassing to watch a show with sex in it, of course. But it's embarrassing to watch one that would present it in such an immature way. That was some True Blood level shit. If 203 had have been bad too I might've quit the show altogether tbh.
