I don't recall, did they say Gendry had that skill on the show or even Tobho? On the show Ice was not melted and reforged by Tobho who had been taken as a prisoner and tortured. The process did not look all that complicated on the show either, remove guard, melt, poor. Now I don't know if it even matters if he learned or didn't learn. Because you can always dump a manual in Sam's lap at the Citadel or even the wall library if you needed too. It would be better to know how to forge new blades than to reforge from a limited and finite source. Though there are some oddities, like you don't need anything special to kill a Wight or destroy it really, that much we have seen on the show and you can kill an other with Obsidian and Dragonstone has more than enough of that. it hasn't been mentioned if he or tobho could re-forge vs on the show, but i wouldn't consider it a plot hole if they revealed he had learned it from tobho. and sam could definitely find out more from the citadel. not sure if they'll re-discover how to forge new blades but that would certainly be the most helpful way. I think the actual complicated methods for forging Valyrian steel has been glossed over quite a bit on the show. I expect there will be a lot more detail in the books on it. All show-viewers care about is that it's 'special' and they made a point of showing Gendry as a remarkable smith on several occasions so there was definitely foreshadowing there for that plot point being his main relevance. However, We know from leaks he goes north with team Wight hunters so it seems even more likely he plays an important role in the end of the story and forging valyrian steel. Probably a greater role than heir to House Baratheon, which might happen at the very end of the entire thing as reward for his service to Danaerys and Jon. Davos would likely suggest that.

I said this when the leaks first came out and I'm probably wrong but it could be that the Wight hunt is not an actual wight hunt but an expedition to get something specific to fight the Others. I'm basing this on the fact that they seem to go on the mission right after the appearance of Jorah. As we know Jorah will be in the Citadel with Sam and perhaps while there Same figured something out and imparted that information to Jorah. This would explain why Jorah decides to go with Jon, because he feels indebted to Sam and wants to get whatever is needed. It seems also that Davos goes specifically to get Gendry at King's Landing so whatever the mission is it requires a smith. This is the best explanation I can come up with as to why this particular group of characters goes up North. Just my two cents.

On a completely different note. There was some speculation about whether or not Greyworm is going to die in the next season, mainly due to his absence in certain scenes. I came across this video that talks about Missandei possibly betraying Daenerys (start at 2:50).
Do you think it's possible that if Greyworm dies, Missandei would turn against Dany in her grief? It would be a huge determent if the person she has trusted for so long joined the opposite side.

It would be a huge determent if the person she has trusted for so long joined the opposite side. I have a hard time seeing it. There is really no foreshadowing for this and it would be coming out of nowhere. Dany says this to Missandei after Jorah's betrayal which makes sense given she's feeling vulnerable and questioning the people who are closest to her. They could have cut the scene for a variety of reasons but the most important is that say unlike with Alisar, Missandei has never shown any dissatisfaction or negativity towards Dany. Also, who would she betray Dany to, she has no connection to Cersei that would come out of nowhere. I could perhaps see maybe her decided not to continue under Dany's service and deciding to stay behind in Dragonstone that wouldn't be weird, she could be so grief-stricken that she just doesn't want to continue on the war path. We just haven't seen her have any notion of divided loyalty and for someone to betray you, there has to be some type divided loyalty. It is curious that they kept Dany's three betrayals out of the series, I think because they meant the betrayals to be more organic. She is a monarch and is bound to get betrayed it's the nature of the beast. Even if it's surprising say Tyrion betraying her for Jaime or Jon betraying for the greater good, it has to have a basis.

Sophie confirming that Sansa survives Season 7? Well, hopefully that'll put that speculation to rest. Although, I'm sure there will be some who will continue to speculate about it. Like I said above, I have a really hard time seeing any more Starks dying.

Like I said above, I have a really hard time seeing any more Starks dying. Not when they are all finally reuniting. If Starks die, I would hazard a guess that it happens in Season 8.

Gee, you know the news has really dried up when even WotW hasn't posted anything for almost two weeks! Too quiet.

Gee, you know the news has really dried up when even WotW hasn't posted anything for almost two weeks! Too quiet. And there hasn't even been any buzz from Belfast about production wrapping. Usually we hear about a wrap party or something. So things could still be going just very quietly or they could've finished a while ago. We're in the dark here.

With all the silence coming from Belfast, I think it's safe to say they are in studio which means only those close to the studio would be able to share anything and that would probably mean their job.
Regarding Gendry and Valerian steel. Someone somewhere mentioned that perhaps the formula for creating Valerian steel is contained in the words of House Targaryen, "Fire and Blood". Perhaps the fire is the flame of a dragon (exceptional high heat) and the blood of a dragon added to the metal to imbue it with the magic. If Sam can find that information in the library, give it to Jorah. He tells Dany, Jon, and Davos - who just happens to know a blacksmith with royal blood.
As for the trip to the North, I've been mulling this part over since the leak first showed up. It just doesn't seem like these men would hop in a boat just to prove to Cersei Lannister that the danger is real. It almost seems like an, "Oh yeah? Well I'll show you!" moment. Why would these reasonable men be goaded into what seems like a suicide mission? I don't find it plausible but perhaps it will make sense when the season premieres.

What if Gendry is Azor Ahai? I know, I know - another candidate. But I was reading some lame article about Jon Snow, and they printed the actual wording from the books, which I had forgotten. "There will come a day after a long summer when the stars bleed and the cold breath of darkness falls heavy on the world. In this dread hour a warrior shall draw from the fire a burning sword. And that sword shall be Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes, and he who clasps it shall be Azor Ahai come again, and the darkness shall flee before him." Bear with me for a moment. What if Gendry does know something about Valyrian Steel. What if in the process of creating a new sword, or reforging Heartsbane for Sam, he picks up the completed sword and it flames at his touch? I know, it's a stretch. I hope we get some real leaks soon. Or a trailer. A teaser trailer would be nice.
