I forgot to post this here, something very amusing. Envie, @nictarion, Lils, @thewhitedevil, sercreighton, One of George R.R. Martin’s favorite books is Peter S. Beagles “The Last Unicorn”. In the unicorn discovers that she is the last of her kind who resides in the magical forest and sets out to find where the others went. Along the way she is turned into a human girl and is named Lady Amalthea. Lots of stuff happens and with the help of her friends she is able to free all the unicorns that have been trapped in the sea by an evil man who uses a creature called the Red Bull to keep the unicorns prisoners. Anyhow, in the 1982 cartoon based on the book (go watch the movie and read the book, it’s lovely and heartbreaking tale) the young Lady Amalthea looks an awful lot like a certain Princess we all know and love. I don’t know if George was influenced or not but a young girl with light blond hair, purple eye, the last of her kind… The Lade Amalthea. Queen Daenerys And here is GRRM being oh so clever and mischievous. A unicorn (whose human form looks like Dany) and a wolf, not subtle at all sir.

A prince falls in love with the unicorn in the story, but they can't be together because she turns back, I believe.

Thanks, for tagging me. I'm not familiar with The Last Unicorn but I will immediately get on it, it seems like a very interesting read.
I have no idea if the story inspired Martin somehow, however the similarities seem to be there.
Last Unicorn and the Last (True) Dragon.
I'm a Joaenerys fan, so I'm eagerly anticipating their meeting and even more so once his origin is revealed, how will Daenerys feel? She thought she was the Last and that thought tormented and pained her throughout all the books.
And Jon, of course. How can he stop being Jon?
I have no real thought about the finale, a part of me wishes a somewhat happy ending for all the characters, unrealistic I know.
I'm not in the J&D having a baby camp, it could happen though and I'm absolutely against the idea of Daenerys dying in childbirth. I'd rather she died on Drogon's back.
If I were forced to pick between Jon and Daenerys for a possible death, I would pick Jon. Why? Personal preference, first and foremost. And if I were to find some sort of logic I would mention that he is already death, brought back as a Fire-Wight.
If a new Night King was needed to keep the Others in line for the next few centuries or so, I can see Jon sacrificing himself. Not like Daenerys would not but she started out as a sacrifice, she was the sacrifice for Viserys' reign, which did not happen... mostly is me wishing a different ending for her.
I'd rather have both of them alive though.

When the laaaaast eagle flies, over the last crumbling mountain. And the last lion roars, at the last dusty fountain. In the shadow of the forest, though she may be old and worn, they will stare unbelieving at the Last Unicorn. Love that song.

Ha! I used to love this movie when I was a kid.
I wonder if he took a bit of inspiration from King Haggard for Walder Frey? He's also a serious creep.

A prince falls in love with the unicorn in the story, but they can't be together because she turns back, I believe. Although, I'm sure GRRM was inspired by the story, he's obviously not following it to the letter. But there is some really interesting things from the ending of the book. From the Wiki: There are definitely shades of Dany and Jon in the characters, which I find amusing. GRRM clearly loves the story.

Thanks for including me in this neat little bit of Daenerys Trivia moiaf ! I love that photo of George having a wolf kiss the white unicorn with the author of that tale ... yeah that's not subtle AT ALL! It's so damn adorable. The funny thing is most fans have not picked up on it. I don't even remember how it came to me but I think it was when GRRM mentioned in his blog that the tale was one of his favorites. Then I made the connection. Ha! I used to love this movie when I was a kid. I wonder if he took a bit of inspiration from King Haggard for Walder Frey? He's also a serious creep. Could be, there is also a little of Tywin in him. Although, I haven't watched the movie in a long time. I wonder if the Red Bull served as inspiration for anything. Schmendrick and Molly have a little of Bran and Meera as well as Sam and Gilly comparison. Probably more Sam and Gilly, as we all know Sam always wanted to be a wizard.

Love that song. Aw! Such a lovely song. But in the end she's not alone, she frees the other unicorns from their captivity. Sorry I am just getting to this been a little worse for wear over the last month. So in response to Basil " When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east, when mountains blow like leaves in the wind, then he will return to you." I think the last Unicorn is a pretty good catch. I did not know Martin was a fan and I saw the movie and read the book when I was a kid. It's been a very long time. Beagles and Martin both know their Greek. Amalthea is a Greek goddess, her name means tender Goddess. She is the foster mother of Zues the Storm and Bull, and associated with Goats. Dany also has strong connections to Foster mothers, mothers, storms, and Horned lords such as the Bull or elk. Jon would also be connected to Horned lords and had a white Bull at his birth. The Unicorns and bull have elemental themes of Fire the Bull and Water the Unicors who represented as sea foam at one point. In Greek sea foam is the symbol of the Dawn goddess. In the end one element over comes the corrupted other.

You know how we've talked about Jon being water, i.e. ice and fire combined actually equals water, and that's where the "last unicorn" finds her family in the water. Yes, and in Martin's world Sun and moon usually ends in water as well. They can take on different themes love, hate, loss, victory, whatever, but you usually will find water. Sunfyre vs. Moondancer. Read the very ending of that it ends in the arms of water. It's clever but it's there. Maiden and Lion = the Pearl Emperor. In Martin's world the Pearl is symbolic of children like Dany's wedding dress. But wear do pearls come from. The Pearl emperors colors are black and white. We see these two colors tied to Dany and Jon. Ghost and Jon, Dany's little bench and her white lion mane. She also had her carriage in Qarth, Dany is also the silver lady, silver is called the white metal. Like her horse is a silver what that means is it's pure white. Watch her transition from a white mount to a black one. Drogon is a Black with red accents, Ghost is White with Red eyes. John is the Black Brother, Dany the silver the lady put them together and Envie has that Yin Yang. Dany and Jon both have a connection to water, obscure and obvious. Jon of course has Ice and fire, ice and fire = water. Dany has a much more physical connection to water. Though it's easily overlooked. I call her the Floozy in the Jacuzzi. Which is the nickname of a couple of fountains in Europe. One has themes of life the other has duality. I encourage people to look them up, the twin Sphinx like pieces of one are very interesting they are the guardians, and the twin lights, and the twin children boy and girl. It also has some lovely poetry which is also relivant. Take a look at how often we find Dany in water, may seem odd, but that is where we meet her isn't it. Later she has her own tub with the Dothraki, which she often uses, the womb of the world, the pool in Qarth, the fountain in Qarth, her thoughts on the sea where she feels a connection, the pool and bath in Meereen, in fact Dany is shown taking more Baths, then all the other characters combined. We also find Jon in a bath a couple of times, in fact that is the first time we see him with a woman. He is in the water, we will later see two burning swords and a naked man and woman in water as well, facing the cold. You ever wonder why Martin made them naked and in water, fire and ice is also present. Now if you take the Silver lady, and the black bastard you get black and white. If you take the Night King of course you get water as well. It's frozen, but it's water. Or maybe it isn't. In the books you ever notice how the Wight's go up like Kindling, yes they are frozen, but something seems to be missing. They are like dried fruit, cut them open and the blood has turned to black powder. Do you know why? Because it's just iron, the water seems to be removed. There is also this idea that water, like flowing water, rain etc... Represent life like spring, the womb of the world, while frozen water represent death. Life has stopped winter has come. They say ice preserves, but what does it preserve? Death, it preserves death. Now if you look at what the Reeds taught us about love and hate, and Yiggy taught us you get views on how you should have perspective at what you look at. Never forget perspective, an ant can be just an ant, but compared to flea it's a Goliath. South is only south when you look at it from the north. Some say Jon is ice and fire, and a few say maybe it's Dany. I say why can't it be both? Just like the Reeds. Now Jon and Jaime. Lion and Wolf "cough" Dragons. In one cave it's literal, you have a naked man and woman in love in water. In another cave you have less literal dream with a naked man and woman in water. The women in Jon's cave is kissed by fire. In Jaime's cave you have not one but two light bringers, but the light goes out for one. What's the difference. Jon loved Yiggy and Jaime continues to deny his feelings for Brie, although he begins to seek her out. However in the case of Jon Yiggy dies, and in the case of Jaime Brie lives. What happened? Jaime went back for Brie, Jon abandoned Yiggy. Two caves, two very different stories, both in water. So what will Jon and Dany's story be, will they have their cave? How will they view each other. How will things change? How will their perspectives change? How will they change the world? Who is Lihtbringer, JOn's red sword or Dany's Dragons. Jsut depends on how you look at it. Some other little things, Dany and Dragonstone, water and fire. Jon and Winterfell the hot springs, water and fire. Jon and the Wall a big block of ice. Dany and her dream, frees the ice which becomes a river of water. Though one has to be careful, we see how ice can corrupt water, we have also seen it's parallel of how fire can also corrupt it. It's going to take two and they need to get that cave moment right. Not saying it will be in a cave but you get the idea.
