Would people get behind a show told solely from the perspective of slavers though? I certainly don't need likeable characters in everything, hell some of my favorite movies and shows have none or next to none, but Idk about watching a bunch of slavers fly around and oppress people and make them work in mines. Well, I equate the Valyrians to the Romans which is why I'm so interested in them. Ancient Rome is my favorite historical period. Beside, slavery can be the cause of tension, I'm sure not everybody supported it. Your CGI concerns are absolutely on point, they would not be able to re-create Valyria as a whole. I have no idea how they could work around that. Unfortunately, I doubt they would go to Valyria for an eventual spinoff but frankly I would take a war among the free cities over Westeros. i must sound as if I hate Westeros, I don't, I just dislike to see recycled storylines.

While I'd like to see Robert's Rebellion on TV (or film) at some point, "Everyone can die" has been one of GoT's themes from the very beginning, and Robert's Robellion can't have that. Everyone knows Robert becomes king, Rhaegar dies, and so on.

Give me some Robert and Lyanna and I'll die happy. Tension be damned, they've got three other potential series with which to have that.

But seriously, what kind of appeal does RR hold for you? It is because you're a fan of the characters involved? I understand that. I would watch anything with Daenerys, even a whole series centered about red doors and lemon trees.

I would watch anything with Daenerys, even a whole series centered about red doors and lemon trees. I've been exposed! Is my bias for Robert so obvious? Honestly you're right - I'd just like to see more of the characters involved. They've already cast a young Ned, Lyanna, Dayne and Aerys - and they were all pretty good with the little time they were given, and personally I'd just like to see more of them. I can totally understand people's lack of interest - can't escape the fact that we know how it ends but that's just the way prequels of this type work. But I think it'd be pretty jarring for the general audience to jump 100 years back with all these brand new characters whom we know nothing about. The setup would have to be pretty expositional in that case and I can bet there'd be a ton of people like "where's Jon and Tyrion and Dany?" (or whoever survives by the end).

It would be interesting if they visited Asshai in a spin-off or at least any of the locations further east, but I doubt it.

I think the GA can handle a time jump. They're not dumb lol. Besides, if they do a prequel, I'm sure they would advertise it as such.

I know I'm coming off as a total D&E fanboy, but there's just too many good characters to pass up. You've got Dunk and Egg who are great together (I think most people love the Brienne/Pod, Sandor/Arya dynamic), Baelor Breakspear, Maekar (the original Stannis), the Laughing Storm, Rohanne Webber, Bloodraven. And that's just a few of the stories.

We have the advantage of basically knowing everything about the world and the characters and following every bit of news like this. A majority of the GA don't know half the main characters names. Hell some of the people I know didn't even realise what the whole Jon-baby thing in Winds of Winter meant and I had to explain to them who Lyanna was. Sure they might just not care enough to be invested in the world and that's ultimately their fault, but if people don't feel invested in the characters they'll lose interest.
Even if a jump is explained well, you're going to lose some people because they have no familiar faces to follow. If they're doing more than one spinoff I see no reason why they can't at least start off with one closer to GoT.
The further back you go, the less it becomes like GoT, the more people lose interest.

DOTD and Conquest are kind of more of the same, so I don't think audiences would suddenly not like what they've been watching for years. It might lose viewers from the original show, but it could gain viewers who didn't watch the original series.
But I think it's a moot point. They're probably doing the rebellion AND probably doing the Conquest and/or the Dance.

Not necessarily. I'm sure there's people that watch Better Call Saul that never watched Breaking Bad. Same with the Star Wars PT/OT. They would be in the minority, but it's not "illogical."
