Done. Fucking loved it. Gotta admit, after Iron Fist, I was a bit skeptical, because I just wasn't all that into all the mystical stuff. And Defenders is all that, which ironically makes Iron Fist the only Netflix Marvel show that you absolutely have to watch in order to understand the story in Defenders. But it was a good story, not great, but definitely serviceable. What elevated this to pure awesomeness in my opinion were the characters and their interactions, so no surprises there. Defenders made me appreciate Danny and Colleen much more than Iron Fist did. I thought they were actually kind of bland and boring in their own show, but they were great in this, and both Finn Jones and Jessica Henwick gave pretty fantastic performances. I like that the show was self-aware enough to occasionally make fun of the glowing fist and the mystical talk about dragons and magical monks. I still think that the first season of Iron Fist was mediocre at best, but it's good to know that there is potential for something great here. Same for Luke Cage, I really did not care for his character in Jessica Jones (which is the reason why I still haven't seen his show), but he was absolutely awesome in Defenders. Ironically, Jessica Jones felt the most out of place in this, because her own show had nothing to do with anything that was going on in Defenders ... which the show is aware of and acknowledges. She was still probably my favourite character, because it's Jessica, and I love her. Funny how Sigourney Weaver's character was hyped up in all the trailers as this super villain, but then she was killed off before the final showdown even occurred, before she got the chance to actually do anything apart from making speeches.
Elektra was so cool though. I didn't love her in Daredevil s2, but I was really digging her character in this. Her final scene with Matthew was beautiful, though the bad CGI took me out of it a little bit.
But how did Matt get out of that pit alive? Seriously, how the fuck did he survive?! I'm thinking if it would have been more powerful if they had actually killed him off. I mean, it would have sucked, because that would mean no more Daredevil, but it feels kind of ... cheap, to have him survive something that no human being, super powers or no, could survive.
Hope this is the last we'll see of The Hand. I wouldn't mind Madame Gao returning to the show, but no more ninjas, please, it's getting a bit repetitive.
The guy who plays Bakuto was so fucking HAWT, holy shit. NOT ENOUGH PATSY, THO!

I agree with everything you said Basil. The story itself is kinda 'meh', even a little cliché in some parts, but the real strength and enjoyment of the show is in the characters. The four Defenders are great together, and I like that it doesn't take too long for them to meet and team up. It's clear from this that whatever the problem with Iron Fist was, it wasn't the actors. Danny and Colleen are a lot more likeable than they were in their own series. It's pretty unbelievable actually how much better they are. I liked that Colleen and Misty (and obviously Claire) got lots of screentime, but I'm a bit miffed about that my favourite supporting characters were pushed to the side, like Trish and Karen. I even wanted more Foggy now that he's got reasonable hair! The villains are pretty good too. They don't hold a candle to the likes of Fisk or (imo) Kilgrave unfortunately. I really enjoyed the new guy, Murakami, even though he's actually really bland. I just think he's just cool The action and choreography in this is soooo good. They continue their streak of doing long takes for fight scenes - there's two of them in the series in fact, and they're both AMAZING, I especially love the second. I like how in the opening episodes, the Defenders' individual scenes are all shot to create certain hues. Luke's apartment has lots of yellow, they give different shots of Matt's church to show off all the reds, Jessica's office doesn't seem to have a bulb so all the lighting in her scenes is blue. Alexandra is always wearing and surrounded by extravagant whites and golds. It's not exactly subtle, but very aesthetically pleasing. So.. the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Justice League, and now the Defenders. Does every superhero team have to start with the members fighting each other? One semi-disappointment I had was with Alexandra. I thought she was initially quite promising, but then she explained that she just wants to live forever because her daughter died and it's just kinda...yawn. It's not bad, she just could have been so much better. And then Elektra just killed her but I'm not entirely clear why. I get that she wanted to be free from her "masters" but I don't understand why she started to think that way in the first place. On the topic of Alexandra, I had this sort of crackpot theory that she was Matt's mother, since we've yet to see her and Alexandra could be around the right age. But nope! I assume we'll be getting to see her in either Daredevil S3 or Defenders S2, whichever comes first. She's clearly responsible for Matt's survival, so I hope they explain it. Also I must've skipped the part in Iron Fist where Gao learns how to use the Force. That was confusing as hell when she knocked down that door

I actually did not watch Iron Fist but still enjoyed The Defenders.
The story wasn't as well developed as the first or even second season of Daredevil, which is my favorite of all the shows, but still an enjoyable series. I think what made it enjoyable was that the villains were compelling, which is a problem in general in the marvel universe. They could have given the villains a little more depth but they were still intriguing and engaging.
I wouldn't mind seeing a second season.

They're releasing that on the same day as Justice League? Not that they're direct competition, but the balls of Marvel. :lol3:

Finished Punisher. Loved it. Jon Bernthal is just so perfect in this role. The second half of the season is particularly strong, IMO. Episodes 10-13 were all amazing.
