Just finished, about to watch again, on first thoughts, I think it may have been the best opener in the series. Pieces slowly put in place for what should be an epic season, the cold open was phenomenal. I don't have any complaints. Finally, our long wait is over.

Were Pilou and Richard Dormer in the opening credits? They weren't, which I found somewhat surprising. I would have thought Pilou would be promoted at least. I guess Gemma is our only new main cast member then.

That was pretty close to a perfect opener, loved pretty much everything about it. Of course it was almost entirely setup so it doesn't get full marks, but it had a singular narrative purpose that this show has never had before and that felt so refreshing.
The North was the best, everything I said yesterday in the speculation thread pretty much came to the fore here, which is rare but nice. Can't wait to see Sansa's conflict play out, it might be my most anticipated thing this season.
Euron was great. Pilou is great so no surprise he nailed it when they gave him a better chance to be Eurony.
I'm seeing people say that Sam's scenes went on too long but I couldn't disagree more. How ineffective would it be if we just popped in to see Sam and he read some stuff about Dragonstone. That was a brilliantly done montage that tells you this is not Harry Potter; his life here is cleaning shit, dealing with sick people and helping out at autopsies. That was hilarious to me, and I can imagine it's exactly what the books are going to do with Oldtown.
Can understandn if you were disappointed with so little Daenerys but it seemed fitting. We're going to have plenty of her this season I'd imagine.

Fair enough on too little Bran but I can only imagine he'll be super important this season too.
And Arya's scenes were great too, good to see a lower class of soldiers who were just normal young lads missing their own lives. We expect every Lannister soldier to be a threat but that isn't realistic. Thank god Ed Sheeran didn't have too many lines, that took me out a bit.

Don't have anything to say about the scene with The Hound other than that it was beautiful. Far better than the quippy murderfest at the end of last season. Rory McCann is all.

Was anyone else taken out of the Arya as Walder scene a bit by having David Bradley stand up when he is almost 6ft tall? I didn't think Faceless Men magic made you a shapeshifter. Seems like they could have easily had him stay seated the entire time...

Wtf. I was not prepared for one of the best episodes of this show. At all.
Thematically on point, layered, cinematic, humanizing characters in beautiful and surprising ways (Arya, Sandor). This episode was a labor of love and far more than just set-up.
The Sansa-Jon tension, which had never interested me before, is turning out to be a pretty damn great subplot.
This felt like the building of a new world, for better or worse.
Also: The scene with the Brotherhood is a classic and one of the most poetic things in GoT history.

Solid episode. Loved the Arya beginning, caught me off guard, thought it was a flashback. Daenerys returning home was amazing, but I can't believe that Dragonstone is completely abandoned - I mean really?
Is it wise for Sansa to keep poking the bear, completely dissing Littlefinger? Is she overplaying her hand with him? Every man has his limits on what he will put up with.

I want the Brotherhood to appear in every single episode this season. That Dormer/Kaye/McCann chemistry is out of this world.

I think there will be no new main cast members this season. Or ever again, really. Looks like Jonathan Pryce was the last one to make it And maybe someone else I'm forgetting.

On my third rewatch. Standard Konrad procedure, though perhaps excessive. The live viewing and first rewatch were with my mum. She doesn't always stay awake for the first rewatch but when she does I need a third at my computer with my earphones in to fully appreciate the music and sound design. And not miss lines due to her interjections. When I'm finished this one I'll post about my rating and whatnot. But Pilou and the Oldtown stuff are excellent. I knew Pilou could play Euron excellently since I watched as much of Borgen as I did (not finished though, I need to get on that). I knew he had the chops and was a very charismatic actor. So after the great response he got for 602 and the negative response he got for 605, I knew he could make his reception a positive one again. Easily. Very few actors can convey so much with their eyes. And of course the makeover helps. I'm sure he got it mostly for Cersei's sake but it'll go a long way for the fandom's sake. As for Oldtown I liked the montage of its drudgery. Sam's dreams of an idyllic academic place had to be shown to be quickly-crushed. He showed up there thinking it would be heaven but nope. He's on the ropes again. And then we get Jim Broadbent as Ebrose doing a helluva job. Great addition to the cast. The Hound material was excellent too. That sequence contained an arc unto itself. It could be a vignette really. When I'm finished this rewatch I'll post a tad more here. And give a rating and all.
