I wonder how far back the writers told Kit and Emilia they were possibly going to be romantically involved? Most of the actors claim they don't know what's going to happen until the season begins filming. Is it possible they didn't know up until season 7 filming began and therefore their attitudes have since changed to compliment one another going into the episodes before they actually meet? Because, I agree they suddenly seem to acting differently when the mention comes up. Before, the characters didn't know the other existed and there's a subtle shift this season in their personalities. Both are harder and more direct and a lot of that's due to the circumstances of war and leading people but also I feel like this shift is setting up the stage for their epic first meeting. We're going to find out soon! Considering all of the buildup and the things they've said in Q&As, I think they suspect, if not know that their characters are getting together. Both Emilia and Kit have mentioned more than once they think that Jon and Dany would be interested in each other. "Fight or F***" as Kit put it. Then there are all the promo pics they've taken, like EW. True, they've been 'shipped' for quite some time in the fan-verse and asked in countless interviews about it so I'm positive they had some idea it was coming. But until they got the scripts, they may not have known to what extent their characters were going to interact. I like the harder, more aggressive attitude both of them are displaying this season so far ... it's going to make that first meeting so tense!

The harder, more aggressive side will be countered by their interactions, I imagine. It was telling that in some of the bts photos, Dany was actually smiling. She hasn't done that very often lately. His eyes in the promo! I'm already dead. WHY ISN'T IT SUNDAY YET? Six years and this week is what is going to kill me.

Both Kit and Emelia have read at least some of the books. I remember Emelia saying right after she got the part, she carried highlighters and post it notes and a book everywhere she went. The books give us the paths that she, Jon and Tyrion led to get to where they are (the show is just getting there first) Mothers died in childbirth (check)lower class within their own family (check) joined and led 'wild' uncivilized clans (check) betrayed by trusted associates (check)almost died...and died (check)unconventional lover/partner who died (check)bound servitude..NW oath same as slavery... Dothraki marriage=slavery (check)there are probably more....
Dany's HotU vision is a neon sign pointing to Jon in the books.
So, yes, I believe both actors were aware of this long before season 7 and trusted the showrunners to keep to the main 'roadmap'...which I believe they are doing. I think this change in their personalities and the not so subtle hints are to beat the mass of the audience over the head with the obvious.

I think this change in their personalities and the not so subtle hints are to beat the mass of the audience over the head with the obvious. While long-time fantatical fans (like us) have picked up on all those check-box items you listed, I don't think it's quite that obvious for the casual show-watcher or reader either one. I've been following the books for the 20 years they've been out and I'll say right now it wasn't until after I started following online that I began to really pick up clues about their parallels and possible future together. It's not as obvious as it probably seems. I didn't even begin to put together R+L=J for quite some time and a few re-reads of the first three books and certainly not confirmed by numerous other fans online once I began joining fan sites. I don't think back in Season 1, when Emilia first got the role, she had any idea what was to come for Daenerys. Up until now, none of us has known for certain since we don't have the newest book in our hands to confirm.

I can't remember when I started the list parallels...years ago, for sure...but it was the HotU vision that sealed it for me on Dany/Jon with the blue rose in the wall of ice. The bell went off in my head and then I started searching for other hints...and there are plenty if you look. I'm one of these folks who actually kept a notebook in those days. (ask me about all of Jon's king references )I think another big clue was when it hit me that all three had mothers who died when they were born...that got me searching the parallels and I had several before I found online fandom. But I hadn't worked out that there was probably something hidden in the crypts that would verify Jon's heritage...that was a mic drop moment for me when I read that post. I believe there's something there now. I also hadn't picked up on the possible A+J=T ...I just thought he was important to the end game, but didn't have that puzzle piece in place until I read it on line....I'm not 100% convinced...but there's compelling evidence. I think the actual HotU vision would have been too obvious in the show, that's why they didn't go there. . Still....hubby worked out R+L=J all on his own and he's just a show watcher (and I didn't give him any help)I don't think he put the Dany/Jon ship together till last night though...and he ships Jon and Sansa since their reunion at Castle Black last season. He still thinks ships with relatives as close as both of these are pretty creepy though. However, I'm a reader that can't let go and just enjoy the story...once I found a couple of easter eggs, I started digging. This led to me reading the series double digit times...I've promised myself no more re-reads till GRRM says he's done with Winds, but I promised myself that 3 rereads ago... I'm probably the exception to the rule...even for readers. I can't remember ever not being able to read. I was reading newspaper articles before starting school (thanks Scout!)and went to the 'big kids' library instead of the 'little kids' library in 1st grade...read Gone With the Wind by 3rd grade. So, I'm an unusual reader I know. Things that slap me in the face might roll right off someone else.

I only came into the books when the show premiered and I tried to keep one book ahead of each season. I was reading Clash of Kings and got to the HotU and the blue rose. It was like a light went off in my head and I remember asking my husband if he ever considered them together. It kind of blew my mind and over the years, I've been seeing more and more parallels. I think you're right about why that scene didn't appear in Season 2. It would be too heavy handed. Now there's no reason to worry about subtlety. They're beating us over the head with us for the people who didn't pick up the parallels.

When I watched the first episode and I noticed that all of Jon scenes led to Dany scenes and vice versa I knew that something would happen between those to. This happened for the entirety of the first season so by then I was totally a shipper. When I discovered the books I knew that what I had oerceived was true. The yin yang symbolist, Ice and fire, and of course the blue flower. It was pretty clear to me where this was all heading.

Of course they are related, although, I didn't figure that out until season 2 but to me a lot of the imagery seemed more like romantic love than familial love.

I definitely saw the connection of love instead of familial love, as I get with Jon and Sansa. I found it interesting how GRRM went out of his way to mention that there were incestuous marriages in the North and also the particular promise that a Targaryen Princess would marry a Stark. It felt about as heavy handed as the finale last season. Not that I'm complaining.

There was absolutely no reason for GRRM to add those marriages to the Stark family tree and in fact the original family tree only had one uncle/niece marriage. So, yeah, he was trying to tell us something.

They seem to think that because GRRM does things with fantasy that not many do, he's going to be shocking with every single scene. He talks a lot about how LOTR inspired him and Aragorn and Arwen ended up together, but no one claims that was cliche. I honestly think this is born out of them hating either Jon or Dany or both. There has been so much set up for them, it's going to happen. I'd also like to point out, if it was cliche, they would have seen each other way earlier in the story and fallen in love. As it is, they have spent most of the series apart, living completely different lives and loving other people. It's a realistic journey of two people whose paths eventually cross and fall in love. We get two seasons of them out of 8 and likely two books out of 7. It's not cliche. <Hands up> I am willing to admit I was wrong. If Jon and Dany's union starts up a new Targaryen dynasty I am a happy man. Yeah..Both Emilia and Kit know people ship Jon and Dany for several years and even before the show started. In interviews, the reporters keep saying the people want Jon and Dany to get together, to marry..then..Kit is always: "Marry Daenerys".same as Emilia..so, they are very aware.. I don't have any doubts about their chemistry on screen together..I think the tension will be AMAZING at first..

LOL! I like it when Tyrion says to Dany: "and you have everything you ever wanted" and then they show an image of Jon Snow.

Ok mega-shippers, give it your best shot: What does Jon say to Daenerys after greeting her? (no script spoilers please)
