I don't think I'll even believe GRRM managed to finish the book if I have it in my hands.

“I’ve been struggling with it for a few years,” he told the Guardian. “The Winds of Winter is not so much a novel as a dozen novels, each with a different protagonist, each having a different cast of supporting players, antagonists, allies and lovers around them, and all of these weaving together against the march of time in an extremely complex fashion. So it’s very, very challenging. Fire and Blood by contrast was very simple. Not that it’s easy – it still took me years to put together – but it is easier.” He confirmed that the sixth instalment was his next priority: “The Winds of Winter is next, then I’ll decide what comes after that – whether it’s to go on to A Dream of Spring, the last one, or whether I switch back into Fire and Blood II, do another Dunk and Egg story or two. But I’ll worry about that one thing at a time – that’s too far ahead.” www.theguardian.com/books/2018/nov/10/game-of-thrones-george-rr-martin-the-winds-of-winter-interview?platform=hootsuite

I love his books as much as anyone, but ffs it’s beyond ridiculous anymore.

I am mentally getting ready for the eventuality that the book series is not getting finished by him. Some other writer will have to take over.

He's been telling us for a while now that he won't finish this series. By his actions or comments. I think his comments months ago were pretty telling. I think it's sadly time for book readers to move on. The show will be the ending since he won't finish it.

I think he's making the right call not to finish it. Life is short, dude is like 70 years old. Unless he's a masochist, there's no reason he should spend his last years on earth doing something that clearly doesn't give him much pleasure anymore. And even if you forced him to write, the books would absolutely suck. Gotta accept the situation and move on.

I think he should let someone else write the last 2-3 books.

I think he should let someone else write the last 2-3 books. No, it doesn’t work. See WoT, Sanderson did an admirable job but it was clearly not ‘right.’ And GRRM as expressed in the past that he doesn’t want to do this, which is fair game. His ideas and world, that decision really rests with him. Do I understand fans being disappointed if we don’t get an ending? Yes, of course. But at the end of the day it is just a book series and there are plenty of others out there to enjoy. If Martin can’t finish he can’t finish, just suck it up and get over it

I don't that think it is impossible for someone else to write these books. If he failed, that doesn't mean that someone else will. It is his choice. Ih he wants this story to die, with him, so be it. But it takes courage to leave the world you created to someone else. George Lucas did it, and it was a wise move.

guys, someone else is finishing the series for him. their names are benioff and weiss. he already gave them access to his world and narratives. we'll have an ending next year. stop this fantasy that some other talented writer you can grab control of the books and give an ending to every last loose ends. the only other "writers" he's let near his book canon are those demons who worked on the world book. that should tell us something.

Did anyone read the Fire and Blood excerpt? You want lazy? It's "The Princess and the Queen." Mostly some cut and paste, the new stuff is like which guards stood at which gate, cause nobody cares. Bonus we get some travel routes. Now that's lazy, granted he does like to repackage his stuff, and I am sure there is a ton of stuff cut and paste from the wiki pages and the books. But... Yeah I can't defend it, looks like a cheap money grab.
In a Fire and Blood video he suggests Aegon may have known about the return of the Others and that's why he United Westeros instead of going after Essos. Also the book appears to talk about Balerion, I guess he was big. Not a joke he says Balerion was big. Thanks Marty, was he also Black? Eeeeek so much detail. I love my Targs, but really? And he's writing two of these? What's the second one about? This little known begger Princess named Dany who rises to power in Essos and brings back the dragons?
How about fire and blood part 3? It can be about this Knight and his Squire you can call it Egg gets Dunked.

George just gave us the biggest hope we've had in years for Winds. He's headed to New Zealand for 2020 World Con and said this in NAB:
It takes about 4 months at minimum after the publishers have it to get it to print, so he has to be closing in on finishing it. I may be just a summer child but personally, I think he's cleaning up inconsistencies and doing pre-publishing housekeeping...

I don't know how to feel. I accepted that the books will never be finished, but if we get TWOW and he never finishes ADOS, that would make things even worse for me.
If I have that hope that he will finish the books, only to be crushed once again... lol
